February 16, 2023 (ARLINGTON, VA)—The Intelligence and National Security Foundation (INSF) today announced the creation of a new scholarship aimed at supporting neurodiverse students pursuing college degrees in an intelligence and national security-focused field of study.

The Reinventing Geospatial, Inc. (RGi) Scholarship will provide a $10,000 award annually over the next 10 years to an undergraduate (rising sophomore to senior) who has a neurodiversity diagnosis and is pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.

“The diversity of our workforce is our nation’s competitive advantage–and that includes neurodiversity,” says INSF President Suzanne Wilson Heckenberg. “Talents that many neurodiverse people possess—such as pattern recognition, processing complex information, visual-spatial tasks, attention to detail, or the ability to sustain focus for long periods of time—are all highly valued analytical skills that can be applied to our national security mission.”

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Enrolled full-time as a rising Sophomore to Senior at an accredited university or college
  • Have at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Pursue a degree in an intelligence and national security field of study
  • Have a documented neurodiversity diagnosis (documentation only required if a scholarship award is to be made).

“RGi has a long history of supporting the future workforce through scholarships and award programs,” said Steve Gillotte, CEO, Reinventing Geospatial, Inc. “We embrace diversity and individuality to drive innovative thinking. This scholarship reflects that commitment by building a national security workforce that challenges the status quo and advances creative, collaborative solutions to our nation’s most pressing challenges.”

The first recipient of the RGi Scholarship will be awarded in the summer of 2023.

The INSF 2023 Scholarship Program, which now offers seven awards for undergraduate and master’s students, opens on Wednesday, February 22. For details, visit www.INSAonline.org.
