INSA Endorses New NSSA White Paper

October 29, 2020

INSA, along with USGIF and the Contractor SAP Security Working Group, today endorsed a new white paper, Establish Governance and Align Security Policies and Programs to Enable U.S. National Security Space Missions issued by The National Security Space Association (NSSA)

The paper provides an overview of the U.S. national security space program, as well as current space security policy, practices, and governance structure. Importantly, the report finds, "The mix of outdated, evolving, and new security policies, classification guidance, security architectures, and security organizations are producing inconsistencies in the application of security measures. Indeed, unintended consequences from differing interpretations and application of policy and guidance impose costs and risks as well as hinder mission performance. They are creating unnecessary challenges to the efficient and effective conduct of the national security space program."

In closing, the paper makes 13 actionable recommendations to establish governance and align security policies and programs that advance U.S. national security space missions.
