In celebration of Black History Month, INSF and Cornerstone are hosting a conversation, on the importance of diversity and inclusion within the national security arena. Join us on Friday, February 26 at 2:00 pm ET to hear from some of our nation's top national security officials and proponents of equity. The program will begin with keynote remarks from Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), followed by a roundtable discussion with

About the Speakers
Serving his 13th term in the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson represents Mississippi’s Second Congressional District. He is the longest-serving African-American elected official in the State of Mississippi. In 2001, Congressman Thompson was selected him to serve as the first Democratic chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. As chairman, Thompson introduced and engineered passage of the most comprehensive homeland security package since September 11, 2001 – H.R. 1, the “9/11 Commission Recommendations Act of 2007.” The Congressman has also served on the Agriculture, Budget, and Small Business Committees.
Rita Sampson currently serves as the Chief of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity within the ODNI. Previously, Ms. Sampson was the Senior Civil Liberties Advisor at ODNI. Before joining ODNI, she served in various capacities within the Department of Justice, including as Assistant Director within the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) and in Assistant General Counsel roles within the EOUSA and FBI. Throughout her career, Ms. Sampson's practice areas have included government ethics, civil litigation, employment litigation, and Constitutional law.
Wyndee Parker is the National Security Advisor for the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Her responsibilities include advising Speaker Nancy Pelosi on national security and international affairs matters, and overseeing the activities of the Armed Services, Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security Committees, and their Appropriations Committee counterparts. Prior to joining the Speaker’s office in2009, Ms. Parker was the Deputy Staff Director and General Counsel of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
George MacArthur is Vice President and Portfolio Manager at ManTech, a role to which he brings 30+ years of national and international intelligence experience. In this role, Mr. MacArthur develops strategic plans for improving operation of services, product support, and quality assurance. Having worked at ManTech since 2017, he served as an executive director and portfolio manager, a program manager, and a senior manager. Prior, Mr. MacArthur held various leadership positions across the private sector.
Lodriguez Murray joined UNCF in 2017 as vice president of public policy and government affairs. In this role, he develops and drives strategies to influence and mobilize action in the U.S. Congress and executive branch on the public policy priorities of UNCF, its 37 member HBCUs and the 50,000 students they serve. Under Mr. Murray’s leadership, the firm’s landmark achievements include the elevation of the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities, safeguards in federal legislation protecting programs for historically black health schools ,and funding on an annual basis for programs to assist with the education of minority health professions students.
Charles Carithers joined Cornerstone Government Affairs as a principal in January 2020 from the House Committee on Homeland Security, where he serves as a professional staff member advising Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) on various national security and intelligence matters. Before joining the Committee, Charles spent 11 years in the IC, having served in various leadership capacities, including the associate deputy director of public affairs for the IARPA and a senior policy officer developing national level policies governing the IC within the ODNI. Charles is a term member with the Council on Foreign Relations and the recipient of the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award and Medal and the Secretary of Defense Global War on Terrorism Award and Medal.
