Mr. Shawn Coates

Mr. Shawn Coates is the Chief of Staff for Human Resources Management at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He previously served as a Senior level Inspector with the Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community. Mr. Coates also served as the Deputy Executive Director for Mission Integration, Chief of Staff of the National Intelligence Council, and Chief of Staff for the Office of the IC Chief Information Officer.

Prior to his tenure with the ODNI, he worked at the CIA in a number of leadership assignments. At the CIA, Mr. Coates served as a Senior IT Project Manager, Executive Officer, and as Chair of the Agency's Diversity Council while working as a Senior Diversity Program Manager of the Agency's 14 affinity groups.

Mr. Coates holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Sciences Systems from Morgan State University, Master's degrees in Business Administration and Information Science from North Carolina Central University, and a Graduate Certificate in Financial Management in the Public Sector from the University of Maryland. He is also a graduate of the Partnership for Public Service’s Excellence in Government Fellows Program and a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute. Mr. Coates earned an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
