Dr. Matt Gaston

Matt Gaston has spent his career turning emerging technologies into operational impact, from a decade inside the National Security Agency to his current role at the front lines of mission-critical AI. He directs the AI Division at Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute, where his teams help the defense and national security community field leap-ahead AI that is reliable, robust, and secure. A founder of the discipline of AI Engineering through the National AI Engineering Initiative, he has built and deployed AI systems at scale across both government and industry. He holds a PhD in computer science and is an adjunct professor at CMU.
