What inspired you to build a career in national security?

My career journey began in the healthcare industry as a software developer, but a great opportunity led me to the Department of Defense in September 2001. Entering government service just prior to the 9/11 attacks, I witnessed firsthand the Intelligence Community's exceptional response during a defining moment in our nation's history. This experience ignited a deep commitment to the national security mission that has driven my 25-year (and counting) career in the Intelligence Community.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most gratifying aspect of my career is championing technical talent and enabling them to deliver the innovative capabilities essential to the Intelligence Community's mission. I had the privilege of doing this throughout my government service, and I'm proud to continue this work at Nightwing.

What is the best career advice you have received?

The most valuable career advice I've received is to step outside of my comfort zone. Though it can be daunting, following this guidance has consistently led to the most meaningful opportunities in my professional journey. Taking these calculated risks has allowed me to support diverse mission areas, engage with exceptional leaders throughout the Intelligence Community, and develop enduring professional partnerships.

Who are your mentors? Who has inspired you?

I have been fortunate to work with exceptional leaders and mentors throughout my career. They often recognized potential in me that I hadn't yet seen in myself, challenging me to grow beyond my perceived limitations and pursue opportunities I might have otherwise overlooked. These are the folks that challenged me to step outside my comfort zone. I can’t thank them enough.

What is your favorite movie, book, TV Show, or podcast?

Reading has always been a passion of mine, from suspense novels to leadership books. I recently read The 6 Types of Working Genius on my manager's recommendation. It's an excellent resource for understanding team dynamics and identifying individual strengths. I've also become a fan of listening to podcasts during my daily commute, with Risky Business being a go-to for staying current on cybersecurity news and emerging threats.

The most gratifying aspect of my career is championing technical talent and enabling them to deliver the innovative capabilities essential to the Intelligence Community’s mission.
