Eddie Pickle is a highly accomplished executive in the public sector, open-source software, and geospatial technology industries, with a career spanning over three decades.
He currently serves as a Senior District Manager for Snowflake, a role he assumed following Snowflake's acquisition of Crunchy Data, where he was the Senior Vice President, Public Sector. At Crunchy Data, the leading provider of open-source PostgreSQL and PostGIS technologies, he led the company's engagement with US government organizations and agencies.
Mr. Pickle’s open-source career began with pioneering geospatial leader OpenGeo. He went on to serve as the founding CEO when OpenGeo became Boundless Spatial, a leading provider of open-source product support and training, which was later acquired by Planet.
A human geographer by training, Mr. Pickle has been a significant leader in both the geodemographics revolution of the 1980s and 1990s and the geospatial web services explosion of the past two decades. His extensive executive experience includes roles at:
- IONIC Enterprise: He was one of the founders and served as Chief Operating Officer of this OGC Web Services pioneer until its acquisition by ERDAS (Hexagon) in 2007. At IONIC, he not only helped launch geospatial web services in US government programs, but also developed the original critical infrastructure database on institutions & facilities housing vulnerable populations used by the US HIFLD program and the major web mapping services.
- Maxar Technologies/RadiantBlue: He was Senior Director, Insight Solutions at Maxar, following its acquisition of RadiantBlue, where he was Managing Director, Open Source Programs. In both roles he led initiatives to initiate open source geospatial services for major US government programs.
- Claritas and IXI Corporation: He served as Executive Vice President at Claritas and Managing Director of IXI Corporation (now part of Equifax). At both companies he led the development and sales of innovative market segmentation systems widely used by US financial institutions.
Throughout his career, Mr. Pickle has worked with commercial, government, and NGO organizations worldwide, serving in roles such as site location specialist, market segmentation analyst, program manager, and critical infrastructure data expert.
A dedicated community builder, Mr. Pickle co-founded the popular FedGeoDay and FOSS4G North America conferences. He also serves as the Secretary of the American Geographical Society (celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2026).
Mr. Pickle holds an MA degree in Geography from UCLA, where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow, and a BA in Geography (Honors: summa cum laude), from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
