Dr. Dennis "Wes" Westbrooks

Dr. Dennis "Wes" Westbrooks serves as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s (ODNI) Chief Diversity Officer and Acting Chief for the ODNI Diversity and Inclusion Group, where his office is responsible for a range of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) efforts within ODNI, including representing internal ODNI interests and equities at Intelligence Community (IC) and US Government councils, boards, training forums, and conferences; producing impactful training and enrichment activities for the ODNI workforce; collaborating with Human Resources Management to produce data-driven reports designed to drive ODNI’s DEIA efforts. He also provides oversight to program managers and educators in the planning, development, and management of ODNI’s DEIA activities and efforts.  Previously, Dr. Westbrooks served as the Associate Provost for Student and Alumni Affairs at the National Intelligence University (NIU) located in Bethesda, MD. He was responsible for supporting NIU’s mission to educate Intelligence Community working professionals in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and beyond, overseeing student support in the daytime, evening, and weekend programs at main campus as well as four satellite academic centers located in Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and the United Kingdom. Prior to his work in academia, he served in the Air Force as an intelligence professional, aircrew member, and deployed as an intelligence liaison officer in support of counter-terrorism efforts. During his academic career, he has collaborated internationally with Chatham House Africa Programme, UK; Royal United Services Institute, UK; University of Cambridge Centre of African Studies; UK and University of Oxford Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre St. Antony's College, UK. He also adjuncts at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. His research primarily focuses on intelligence studies but he has written and presented on numerous topics relevant to the IC. Wes holds a BS from Hampton University, Hampton, VA, an MS from The George Washington University, Washington, DC, and a PhD from Hampton University.
