Common Threads: Huntsville's Intelligence Community

This online program, happening on Wednesday, May 19 from 2:00-3:30 pm ET (1:00-2:30 pm CT), will spotlight key mission priorities and areas of opportunity in Huntsville, Alabama, an ever-growing hub for intelligence and national security efforts. Giving IC colleagues the opportunity to connect outside the Beltway, this program will include keynote remarks from Tonya Ugoretz, Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI's Cyber Policy, Intelligence, and Engagement Branch, and an engaging panel discussion.

About the Keynote
Tonya Ugoretz is the Deputy Assistant Director for the FBI's Cyber Policy, Intelligence, and Engagement Branch where she oversees the Cyber Division's contributions to national-level policy, intelligence analysis, and partner outreach. Prior to this position, she spent three years at ODNI as the first director of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center (CTIIC). Beginning government service in 2001 as a Presidential Management Fellow, Ms. Ugoretz later became the first analyst to serve as the FBI Director’s daily briefer and served in various roles at FBI, CIA, Customs and Border Protection, and the National Intelligence Council.
Meet the Panelists
Luke James is the Senior Regional Director for SAIC in Huntsville, AL. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he began his career as a Navy pilot and subsequently served at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). While assigned to NGA, he was the Congressional Liaison representing the Agency's priorities to Congress; monitoring and analyzing legislation directly impacting the agency; and advising on technical, operational, budgetary, and policy issues involving geospatial intelligence-related national security. Prior assignments at NGA included positions as Military Executive of the Office of Asia Pacific in Analysis and Production and the Operations Center Director in the Springfield, VA NGA Operations Center serving as the Senior Watch Officer.
Jason Fickett is the Section Chief for the Cyber Readiness Section within the FBI's Cyber Division. In this capacity, he leads cyber training for the Bureau and is responsible for financial management, logistics, and security for his division. Mr. Fickett began as a Special Agent with the FBI in February 2002, serving on the FBI SWAT team and as a firearms instructor in Buffalo, NY until 2010. Following, Mr. Fickett completed a tour in Afghanistan as an Assistant Legal Attaché and in Rome, Italy as a Legal Attaché. In 2015, he returned to Buffalo as the Supervisor for the Cyber Division's Cyber Task Force and was promoted to Special Agent-in-Charge of the Intelligence Division, Branch II, Washington Field Office, where he served until he took on his current role in 2020. Prior to the FBI, Mr. Fickett served as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy for 21 years.
As the Director of DIA's Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC), Kimberly King leads engineers and scientists in all-source scientific and technical intelligence analysis of foreign ballistic missile systems, air and missile defense systems, anti-satellite systems, anti-tank guided missile systems, directed energy weapons systems, and associated command and control systems. Leading MISC, she also oversees all operational and infrastructure activities at the Richard C. Shelby Center for Missile Intelligence. Prior, Ms. King served as the Chief of the Defense Counterproliferation Office and as Defense Intelligence Integration Officer for Counterproliferation. Other DIA assignments include Deputy Chief, DCP; Devision Chief, Military Forces Analysis Office; and multiple positions with the Underground Facility Analysis Center.
Marc Sachs is the Deputy Director for Research at Auburn University's McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security. He is also the Chief Security Officer of Pattern Computer, a startup in the machine learning and artificial intelligence field. Mr. Sachs retired from the United States Army in January 2002 after 20 years of service and, in February 2002, was appointed by the President to serve concurrently on the staff of the National Security Council as the Director for Communication Infrastructure Protection in the White House Office of Cyberspace Security. Mr. Sachs also spent time in the private industry at SRI International, Verizon Communications, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, and at Ridge-Lane Limited Partners.
Major General (Ret.) Barbara Fast currently serves as the President and CEO of BGF Enterprises LLC, a consulting services business for intelligence, cybersecurity, and operational activities. Prior to her current position, she served as the Senior Vice President of Strategic Engagements and as the Vice President of the Army Defense and Intelligence Programs at CGI Federal, where she was responsible for developing and executing cyber and biometrics strategies for government and commercial customers, as well as managing a business unit in support of government customers. General Fast retired from the U.S. Army after over 32 years of dedicated service, during which she held a variety of key leadership positions.
