The transformation from loyal employee to malicious insider does not occur overnight; there are usually signs along the way. Government contractors are using advanced text analytics and other software tools to identify subtle changes in employee behavior that raise red flags. With appropriate privacy safeguards in place, these enable organizations to identify at-risk employees and offer counseling and assistance in order to prevent behavior that may lead to leaks of classified information or workplace violence.
“Assessing the Mind of the Malicious Insider,” by INSA’s Security Policy Reform Council, looks at this issue in depth and seeks to identify preventive measures for both industry and government against the ongoing insider threat.
